Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with severe pulmonary hypertension was diagnosed in three young dogs.Cardiac catheterization and echocardiography revealed that all cases were barely left-to-right shunting PDA, and surgical ligation of the ductus arteriosus was consequently performed in a modified Jackson or directmethod.Post-operative recovery was uneventful in all cases, and all dogs have been in good condition withoutmedication required in the four years since the surgery. These successful cases suggest that PDA with severepulmonary hypertension can be treated with a surgical procedure when given a strict evaluation of both aorticand pulmonic arterial pressure through cardiac catheterization.
