Amid growing global efforts toward carbon neutrality, fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) are gaining attention for their potential to reduce CO2 emissions. Japan promotes hydrogen as a key energy strategy, yet FCEVs face major adoption barriers, including the need for new infrastructure and high costs of both vehicles and hydrogen. Unlike hybrid vehicles, FCEVs require broader investment, which remains limited due to uncertain market prospects. This study examines the challenges of applying existing research to real-world FCEV diffusion in the automotive industry and provides insights into strategies necessary for accelerating their diffusion.
