Abstract

A novel continuous, multi-staged falling liquid film evaporator/distiller has been developed that makes use of the advantageous effects of the Wall Wetter device for a batch evaporator. With basic data from an evaporation experiment with water and iso-propyl alcohol in a standard two-stage experimental apparatus, a useful correlative equation for evaluating the evaporative heat transfer coefficient was constructed by taking into consideration the effects of film Reynolds number, heat transfer enhancement due to the surface renewal fluid motion caused by the rotating Wall Wetter device, and transport physical properties.
