Abstract
We've inquired into the physical condition of 7240 pupils of primary schools (consisting of 6, 9 & 11 year old) in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu in 1955. And, in comparison between cities and countries, and between the year of 1955 and the year of 1939, 1948 and 1952, we have reached the following conclusion : (1) Boys have finer physique than girls, in average, both in cities and countries in 1955. (2) There isn't so remarkable difference in height between cities and countries in the case of boys as well as girls. In weight those who are living in countries are heavier than those in cities in average. In girth of the chest, on the contrary, those in cities are larger than those in countries. (3) In 1955 compared with 1938 (the pre-war year), their physique is upward a bit both in cities and countries. But, the increasing of weight, above all other things, is most backward. (4) And in 1955 as compared with 1948 and 1952, they are growing to a remarkable degree. There is especially a marked sign of growing tall in the case of girls.
