The Change and Reconstruction of the Major in Health, Kochigakuen Junior College : Part1 : The Change and Reconstruction of the department of Nurses' Training

Abstract

In 1970,the department of health was established for the purpose of training dental hygienists and school nurses. Then, in 1987,it was separated into two majors; the major in dental hygiene and the major in health. The aim of the latter was to serve better for societal as well as educational needs. The teachers of the major in health aim to work for an inlprovement in quality of care, in line with the change of social conditions and the educational environment. However, just coping with the changing times is not enough; students need to understans the spirit of the curriculum of the college and the purpose of their education for themselves. I feel that drastic reform of the major in health and the department of nurses' training is needed in order to increase the number of applicants to Kochigakuen Junior College, and I would like to propose my ideas in this paper.
