Abstract
This study examined the relation between junior high school students' exclusive attitudes toward other small group members and regional cultures in Japan. Participants, 1064 seventh-grade students, in Saitama regarded as a modern region or in Kochi as a traditional region, completed a questionnaire. The following significant results were obtained: Students' exclusive attitude scale scores in the traditional region were higher than those in the modern region. In addition, girls' scale scores were higher than boys' scores. Since the exclusive attitude regulates students' adjustment to school lives, a further direction of this study will be to examine the relation between exclusive attitudes toward other small group members and regional cultures with respect to students' adjustment to school lives.
