This study examines 18 students of foreign residents or retumee having impressions of sma1l Japanese groups with exc1usiveattitudes at junior high school. The research was conducted by means of a questionnaire and the following results were obtained. Many of the participants have an impression of Japanese students with exclusiveattitudes relatively stronger than they had in the other countries. Particulaly, they think that Japanese have tendency to prefer association with specific friend to participation in group activities. It is likely that the exclusive attitudes shown by a smallgroup have a great influence to members of the other group, particularly on an adjustment of foreign residents or returnee students to school lives in Japan
