The radial flow of a thin liquid film, formed by water discharge from a small cylindrical opening between a circular nozzle and a horizontal plate, is studied experimentally. The velocity profile in a thin liquid film was measured with the aid of Laser Doppler Velocimeter. The results showed that a boundary layer gradually grows in the downstream direction and finally whole flow merges into boundary layer, and that the transition from laminar to turbulent occurs when the discharge Reynolds number is large. The experimantal results of the process of the flow development were compared with the theoretical values calculated by means of boundary layer theory.
