The ultimate aim of this study is the effective treatment of waste and the utilization of its energy. This paper describes the performance of a compact combustor for low calorific solid materials with combustion augmentation of extremely low calorific gases. Mixtures of charcoal dust and sand were used as the low calorific solid fuel. Experimental results show that the unaided combustion of low calorific fuels up to 5% charcoal dust content has been realized in this combustor, the apparent heating value of which was 1.35 MJ/kg {321 kcal/kg}.
