The present paper shows a numerical analysis of two-dimensional unsteady separated and reattached flow and heat transfer around a rectangular cylinder located on a wall in a channel with two parallel walls. The Reynolds number ranges from 100 to 1000. For Re≤300, the flow is found to be steady. For Re=400∼1000, the separated shear layer becomes unstable accompanying the formation of spanwise vortices, and in a range of Re≥500, the reattachment length steeply decreases as Re increases. These vortices grow behind a cylinder and are shed almost periodically. The details of the local heat transfer characteristics along with the flow behaviors are clarified.
