The use of digital control technique in active magnetic bearings has, in comparison with analogue control case, the following features: (1) Simplification of hardware of electric circuit, (2) generality of hardware, (3) possibility of higher technique of control, (4) flexibility by software, (5) extensibility with higher CPU. In this paper results of tests using a simple experimental apparatus of vertical single axis control are reported as the former step of multi-axis control with high-speed rotation. The results are as follows; (1) Almost the same performance of digital control with analogue case was obtained in impulse test. (2) 1st order-PID control gives sufficient result. (3) Noise of half of sampling frequency is amplified and may harm control performance.
