In this report, the effects of fluid inertial forces in externally pressurized thrust collar bearings with a slot restrictor are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The inertia forces generated within the restrictor and the bearing clearance are considered. From the experiment, it is concluded that the influence should be considerable when the kinematic viscosity of the lubricant becomes too low, and the presented analysis yields fairly good predictions for dynamic bearing performance.
