A diagnostic fuzzy expert system for ultrasonic testing (UT) which has been constructed by the authors shows good agreement between the results obtained by the system and by UT experts. In this study, we attempt to construct a personal-computer-aided system and to supplement knowledge of the parastic echo. In addition, the computational time required for inference is reduced because the blackboard model used in the proposed system is more improved than authors' former models. The results obtained with the proposed fuzzy expert system are compared with those obtained by UT experts, and it is confirmed that the system has the capacity to discriminate between parastic echo and defects.
