Abstract
In order to obtain better designs based on concurrent processing of design and manufacturing information, methodologies and procedures for the progressive evolution of constructing design optimization problems are proposed. First, the implicit constraints which exist behind the formulation of design optimization are defined. Then, the design optimization procedures in which relaxation of these constraints is successively conducted are constructed for obtaining new evolutionally advanced Pareto optimum design solutions concerning the product performance and the product manufacturing cost. This progressive evolution of constructing design optimization problems is repeated until a satisfactory design solution is obtained. The proposed evolutional design optimization methods are applied to beamlike structural models and horizontal articulated robot models for demonstrating the procedures.
