In multilayered damped structure with viscoelastic material, A loss factor is usually calculated by using complex eigenvalue analysis and modal strain energy method (MSE). However, complex eigenvalue analysis is unreasonable to large structure. And, MSE is incorrect in high damped material case, so it isn't considered mode change for large damping. In this paper, a modified modal strair energy method (MMSE) is proposed. This method is presented by equivalent mass-spring model with damping. Comparisons are given between results by the complex eigenvalue analysis, by MSE, and by MMSE. MMSE is sufficiently reliable to calculate the loss factor. Finally, our method is applied to analyze the dynamics of multicone reinforcement structure.
