SURGICAL TREATMENT OF BILATERAL EMPHYSEMATOUS BULLA : A-6 YEAR SURGICAL EXPERIENCE

Abstract

Ten patients with bilateral emphysematous bulla were operated on during the period from 1987 to 1992. Eight of these patients underwent simultaneous bilateral bullectomy through a median sternotomy. No mortality or morbidity was encountered. Bilateral simultaneous resection through a median sternotomy is an excellent approach for bilateral emphysematous bulla except giant bulla of the lower lobe which is located above the diaphragma.
