Abstract
A preparation method of star-shaped polymers from macromonomers consisting of various acrylate monomers and styrene was studied in order to develop paints of low viscosity. The purity of macromonomers, that is, the content of the components having unsaturated end groups was determined by two methods; 13C NMR with assignments by STN international and GPC analysis of copolymerization products of the macromonomers with methyl methacrylate and styrene monomers. Both methods gave almost identical results. From the contents of unsaturated end groups in several macromonomers prepared under different conditions, it was found that the content of the components having no unsaturated end groups could be decreased to almost 0% by removing the unreacted chain transfer agents before macromonomerization of the prepolymer with glycidyl methacrylate.
