Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of observing simulated childcare on consciousness change of novice students in the nursery teacher training courses through the longitudinal and cross-sectional analyses.

First grade students were asked to respond to sixteen items constructing of simulated childcare concerning their own abilities to conceive and to perform. They were asked during three periods, before the observation, after the observation of expertise second grade students, and after the observations of first grade students. Results revealed that there was a main effect of the period, mean scores were significantly higher after the observation than before. Especially mean scores on items containing technical terms for childcare were significantly higher after the observation than before. And in such items there was a main effect of the grade, mean scores of second grade students were significantly higher than first grade students before the observation, and mean scores of second grade students were higher after the observations than before. These results suggest that observations of simulated childcare affect the consciousness changes in ability to conceive and to perform
