This article is a study of educational activities of Protestant Missions in Modern China following previous articles such as "On the Anglo-Chinese College" hby the same auther in the 1957 issue of "the Bulletin of the Faculty of Education of Kyushu University" and several other articles and is also intended to be a part of an enlarged and revised edition of "the History of Educational Culture in Modern China (1941) which the auther is preparing to publish in near future. This thesis opens with a historical sketch of various missionary activities in the eary missionary period (1807-1842) especially by English and American Boards and dealth with characteristic differences of the Boards relative to their nationalistic background and still with Commendable Cooperation. Then a historical review has been made concerning "Mrs,. Gutzlaff School" and also "the Morrison Education Society" by which the Morrison School was established and maintained. Special attention also has been paid to the work and characteristics of S. R. Brown, the founder of the school, as an ideal educator. Lastly, the school in its entirety was examined and evaluated.
