Research on Reaction between SiC and Fe₂O₃

Abstract

In the present study, the solid state reaction between silicon carbide (SiC) and ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃) under different molar ratios and different reaction temperatures have been investigated. It was found that Fe and SiO₂ were generated by the reaction between SiC and Fe₂O₃ with molar ratio of 1.2:1 at 1473 K (1200℃) for 30 minutes. The results of this study may provide a basis for the better use of SiC containing wastes.
