When developing a membrane oxygenator, flow control with a blood pump is very useful. Its history began with roller pumps used in extracorporeal circulation devices and moved to centrifugal pumps. In recent years, with the long–term use of artificial lungs, the pivot type is changing to non–contact type hydrodynamic bearings. Since its durability is not much different from that of the auxiliary artificial heart, it has device performance for longer–term treatment.
