To examine the effect of change of vegetation, trombiculid mites were collected from Apodemus speciosus in Kaseda City, Kagoshima Prefecture, where a survey of trombiculid mites had been carried out before. The natural woods, which were surveyed before, had been turned into Japanese cedar woods at three sites and into an orange orchard at one site. Compared with the previous survey, the number of trombiculid mite species did not change at two sites in the Japanese cedar woods located in a mountain, but it decreased at one site in the Japanese cedar woods adjoining a rice paddy and at one site in an orange orchard.
