Abstract

Occurrence of cockroach Symploce japonica was confirmed at three sites (Shioiri-cho, Sano-cho, and Nobi-cho) in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Eleven adults of S. japonica were first collected inside of a building and subsequently several adults were found in catch basins both inside and outside of the building. The cockroaches were thought to be infested into inside the building through drainage system. Insecticides were applied to the building and the drainage system to control this population. As a result of monitoring survey on roads around the building for fifteen months after the first collection, adults were still collected mainly from May to July. This study suggests that S. japonica has established its population in Honshu, the main island of Japan.
