Abstract At National Institute of Technology, Miyakonojo College (Miyakonojo Kosen), students are required to take English Composition class and English Grammar class during the first two years, through which they learn basic English grammar and grammatical expressions including English usage. In order to make this process more efficient, the teaching staff need regularly to see what grammatical items are practically used in daily lives and to prioritize those items to be appropriately presented to the students. In the precedent paper, I studied grammatical trends in newspaper articles on general topics such as political issues, cultural events, science and technology. This paper describes what kinds of grammatical items and expressions are frequently used in English news. As a conclusion, I was able to grasp some tendency with grammatical items, confirm new usage of some conventional words and understand the basic construction pattern of some idioms. I hope this study would help the teaching staff organize more learner-friendly teaching programs. Keywords [English grammar, idiom, news]
