Graphic arts technology has made a remarkable development. Bringing in a new technology, Tokyo Polytechnic University took over the education of graphic arts technology from Tokyo College of Photography, the predecessor of the university. The department of printing at the college provided lots of special subjects, such as applied chemistry and applied physics. However the situation has greatly changed. The current department established by reorganization of the faculty of engineering, the department of image and media, presents various special subjects relating to computer graphics, 3D image display, virtual reality, information technology, etc. Digitalization in Graphic arts would need human resource that acquired specialized skills like the above technology.
