UV Curing Accelerators and Function-Granting Additives, “DPNG” and “IPEMA”

We developed additives Diprenyl glycerin ether (DPNG) and Isoprenyl methacrylate (IPEMA) for reducing oxygen inhibition, which means poor curing during UV curing by oxygen. Compared with existing compounds, DPNG shows higher oxygen absorption without a metal catalyst. IPEMA is an asymmetric bifunctional monomer with a highly copolymerizable methacryloyl group and a less reactive isoprenyl group with an acryloyl group. Real-time analysis confirmed that the UV curing solution with DPNG or IPEMA rapidly accelerated the curing. DPNG exhibited antioxidant properties; moreover, its yellowing inhibition effect was more enhanced than that of contemporary antioxidants such as phenolic and hindered amine antioxidants, and it had a synergistic effect when used in combination with existing antioxidants. IPEMA can modify the cured film when used as a reactive diluent, resulting in a cured film that is hard as well as flexible.
