In recent years, various methods of printing with application of electronics have been developed. Silver halide photography, electrophotography, ink jet printing, and thermal transfer printing are expected to be available for making pictorial color prints because of their high print quality. Color prints by silver halide photography show the best print quality of those by the above mentioned printing methods. As ink jet printing and thermal transfer printing have high potentiality, they may be used as main means for making pictorial color prints in the future. Firstly in this paper, we will discuss color reproduction of silver halide photography. Secondly, new techniques for pictorial color printing, especially ink jet printing and thermal transfer printing, are discussed.
