Radiological studies were done on twenty-one patients of neurofibromatosis concerning spinal deformity.
The age at the examination ranged from 3 years to 52 years. Scoliotic curvature with vertebral rotation was found in 16 cases. The degree of curvature was from 5 to 117 degrees (mean 47 degrees) by Cobb's method. 8 cases of them had relatively sharp curve with typical radiological changes of the spine characteristic for neurofibromatosis, that is, penciling of the ribs and dystrophic changes of the vertebrae, whereas kyphosis was recognized in only one case. Atlanto-axial dislocation was seen in one.
