Since February 1984, the trapezial osteosynthetic plate was used in 12 anterior cervical fusions for rigid stabilization and early ambulation. Their preoperative diseases were nine cervical spondylotic myelopathies, two ossifications of posterior longitudinal ligament and pseudarthrosis after anterior cervical fusion. The fused cervical spinal bodies consisted of four bodies (4), three bodies (5) and two bodies (2). After good surgical stabilization, an average postoperative recumbency period was 6.6 days. Ambulation was begun using soft collar or Philaderphia collar. Comparison between AO H shaped plate and Caspar plate showed that Caspar plate was more effective for rigid stabilization, we think that the trapezial osteosynthetic plate is valuable in the following areas of cervical spine pathology: unstable cervical spine injuries, degenerative diseases, pseudarthorosis after fusion operation and tumor involving the vertebral bodies.
