Posterior dislocation of the shoulder is rare and easily overlooked. The incidence reported previously is about 1.5 to 3.8 per cent of all shoulder dislocations. Some clinical findings and an axillar radiogram will establish the diagnosis. But, severe swelling and resricted motion in the early days after injury prevent us from making the correct diagnosis.
We have experienced a case of chronic posterior dislocation which had been operated on with McLaughlin's method nine weeks after injury. Clinical course was very favorable.
