Seven operations for correction of thoracolumbar and lumbar scoliosis by the technique of Zielke were carried out. The average follow-up was 42 months. Their curves averaged 51.9° and average correction was 77.8%. Correction of the spinal vertebra rotation was 65.6%. The tilt angle of the vertebra at the lower end of the curve was corrected to 72.7%. Two of the patients developed pseudoarthrosis, but no major complications were encountered. The Zielke instrumentation in the management of thoracolumbar and lumbar scoliosis offers the advantages of good correction and minimal segment fusion.
