For the last ten years, 70 patients with the fracture of patella were treated in our hospital. Of these, follow-up study was carried out in 27 cases. Twelve patients were treated conservatively and 15 operated on. Enlargement of the involved patella was noted as well as shortening of the patellar tendon in most cases. Clinical result was generally better in conservative group.
This is considered to be attributable to the less damage of the patello-femoral joint in conservative group than operative group.
