Abstract
The fate of free fat grafts used in spinal decompression surgery to prevent epidural fibrosis was evaluated by CT scanning. A follow-up study was perfonmed on thirteen cases. The free fat grafts were obtained from the subcutaneous layer of fat of the back.
The grafts were used to cover the dural sac. Results were excellent in six, good in five, and fair in two cases.
In one case, the second operation for recurrence of the tumor demonstrated survival of the fat graft and apparent prevention of scar formation. The free fat grafts were effective to prevent the postoperative dural scar formation.
