Abstract
In this report, we present a case who suffered from synovial osteochondromatosis in the subacromial bursa which, to our knowledge, has never been reported in Japan, and regained early return to sporting activities by arthroscopic treatment.
The patient was a 40-year-old male who had shoulder pain during and/or after playing volleyball over a 10-year period and had increased pain, limited shoulder motion and disturbance of daily living since one month ago. From physical examination and radiographs, synovial osteochondromatosis in the subacromial bursa and impingement syndrome of the shoulder was diagnosed, and arthroscopic synovectomy and removal of loose bodies was performed. Postoperatively, passive motion was started on the first day after the operation and he has returned to full sports activity, playing volleyball without pain since 8 weeks postoperative.
