Because of the increasing use of fluoroscopy in treating femoral neck fractures, we should recognize the radiation risk to orthopaedic surgeons and paramedical staff. Using a digital dosimeter, we directly measured the radiation exposure to the neck of the staff. Although the dose of radiation was low, cavalier use of fluoroscopy is to be condemned, because no one has yet accurately determined whether low-dose radiation is harmful.
