Eight patients who complained of neck pain and numbness of the hand were treated by low power laser irradiation around the Stellate ganglion and the change in hand palmar temperature was evaluated by thermography. Clinical results showed that low power laser irradiation was effective for five patients with neck-shoulder-arm syndrome and radiculopathy was more effective than for myelopathy patients.
The skin temperature of the face and hand palmar region rose significantly and bilaterally after ten minutes of irradiation.
Low power laser irradiation lowers the tension of the sympathetic nervous system and increases peripheral tissue blood flow, thereby relieving pain and numbness.
