We report a case of a 69-year-old man with a late infection in his total hip arthroplasty due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Debridement and removal of the implants were performed with continuous closed irrigation and intravenous antibiotic therapy. However, MRSA infection recurred after the first debridement. IN total, five operations were performed to reduce the infection.
Objective signs of the infection had disappeared in a section of the proximal femur after treatment with VCM and FMOX. At follow-up 2.9 years after the last operation there were no signs of infection.
