Abstract
We performed revision surgery following total knee arthroplasty complicated by patellar component failure in 6 knees (4 cases).
The best surgical approach was the tibial tubercle osteotomy. It was very difficult to remove the patellar plate from the bone due to strong bone ingrowth and the airtome was very useful for removing the patellar plate. Total knee arthroplasty with patellar component failure always has some femoral component wear making it necessary to revise not only the patellar component but also the femoral component.
