We treated 8 children with femoral shaft fractures. Their ages at fracture were 2 years 5 months to 15 years
3 cases were treated conservatively and 5 cases by antegrade intramedullary nailing. (Three with Küntscher nail, one with Ender nail and the other one with Kirschner wire)
All cases achieved bone union. Children treated by intramedullary nailing had shorter duration of admission.
Intramedullary nailing is a useful method for femoral shaft fractures, especially for cases difficult to treat conservatively.
