In an attempt to do an objective analysis of the bowel sounds of the new borns which were recorded on magnetic cassette tapes, the frequency spectra and the distribution of the bowel sound durations were studied.
For better sound/noise ratios, all recordings were made using our double cylinder suction type pick up apparatus.
The spectrum analysis done by the soundspectrograph (SSG) and fast Fourier analysis (FFT) revealed that frequency did exceed 1500Hz only rarely and that the shaded stripe patterns drawn by the SSG corresponded well to the frequency spectra obtained by FFT.
When the unit time is set to lmsec, the distribution probability of the sound duration follows Poisson's phenomenon, with relatively small variance.
