Abstract

We studied immunoadjuvant activity of phospholipids extracted from each homologous animal tissues (intestine, liver and brain) to elucidate the immunological role of the tissue phospholipids in autoimmune diseases including ulcerative colitis.
Each tissue could elicit the delayed hypersensitivity and antibody production to protein antigen. Especially, negatively charged phospholipids fraction owned the strong activities as immunoadjuvants. Moreover, crude intestinal phospholipids had too the same activity to ECA, suggesting that intestinal phospholipids play some roles in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis.
Slightly chronic inflammations of the colon tissue were observed in the ECA sensitized guinea pigs.
