Abstract

Endotoxemia was frequently found in severe liver diseases; 75% of fulminant hepatitis, 61.9% of hepatoma and 56.8% of liver cirrhosis cases. Serum total bilirubin levels in fulminant hepatitis and liver cirrhosis showed to be lower in cases with endotoxemia in comparison with those of cases without endotoxemia. Endotoxemia was frequently found in liver cirrhosis and hepatoma cases in which liver scintigram of 99mTc-phytate showed marked atrophy.
Endotoxemia was usually found in liver cirrhosis cases in which hepatic blood flow index by 99mTc-phytate was under 0.124 or BSP (45 min) and ICG tests were both over 34%.
Disappearance of endotoxemia was noted in, about 50% of liver cirrhosis and hepatoma cases treated with Lactulose.
