Objective: This report describes the successful treatment of pial arteriovenous fistula (PAVF) using transarterial coil embolization in two patients.
Case Presentation: Case 1: A 56-year-old man presented with a PAVF that was fed by the periphery of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) and the middle cerebral artery (MCA) in the right frontal lobe. Embolization from the MCA side to the ACA side nearest the fistula caused the arteriovenous shunt (AV shunt) to disappear.
Case 2: A 45-year-old woman presented with a PAVF that was fed by the periphery of the MCA in the right frontal lobe. Embolization from the peripheral side to the central side of the MCA nearest the fistula caused the AV shunt to disappear.
Conclusion: Transarterial coil embolization nearest the fistula can safely treat PAVF in some cases.
