I am happy to be able to have a chance to look back my personal history and carrier in the field of Otology and Neurotology. I have been operating more than 5,000 patients who suffered from hearing loss, deafness, and dizziness. For me, every single case was so important, and I could learn a lot in each case. I should be grateful to them, as they have been educating me and now fortunately I can do most kinds of surgery. I would like to continue to do better surgery to help suffering people in the future. I started my research carrier in 1987 as a graduate student at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, focusing on “glutamate receptor” and “acute endolymphatic hydrops”. Then I studied abroad in America in 1990 as a visiting fellow at National Institute of Health (NIDCD) where I was lucky I could learn deeply molecular biology and molecular genetics. When I came back to Japan in 1992 as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Otolaryngology, Osaka University School of Medicine, I was burning with dreams to become a master of surgery as well as a great researcher. I was interested in various molecules and continued my research while having fun. I do appreciate all the people I have met till now, who supported me. I do not know if my dreams came true. I may be very close to the master of surgery now. Unfortunately, I am not yet a great researcher. Anyway, I would like to keep pursuing my dreams forever.
