Observation of fine vibration of both the human and the guinea pig tympanic membrane being responded to various sound stimuli by using Ultrasonic Pulse Doppler Method has already been reported.
This study is to present the measurement of the resonance frequency and Damping Ratio of both the human and the guinea pig ear drum in vivo using the same Ultrasonic Pulse Doppler apparatus previously reported, with a fine probe of 1mm in diameter. We'd like to emphasize the possibility of the measurement of mechanical properties of the human tympanic membrane and on its application to the audiological investigation.
