Quantum simulation using trapped ions

Abstract

Systems of trapped ions are attracting attention as candidate physical systems for realizing quantum computers and quantum simulators. In this review, we give a brief overview of the basic technologies for quantum information processing and quantum computation using ions, and approaches toward large-scale operations. Then we explain the quantum simulation of physical systems including solids using ions.
