Etch pits in the shape of a rhombus or hexagon-like appear on the (001) surface of a gado-linium molybdate crystal when etched with sulfuric acid diluted by 25-100 fold of water at 50°C whilst spindle-shaped etch pits appear on the (100) suface. Pairs of etch pit lines run nearly parallel to each other along <110> directions on both surfaces. It is supposed that the pit lines correspond to a section of dislocation loops. Moreover domain stucture is delineated by relatively deep ething of over 10μ.
