Hollow oxide particles have been widely used for lightweight and insulating fillers, catalysis support, separation technology and capsule agents for drug delivery and protecting sensitive agents such as enzymes and proteins the optically hollow shells have extensive applications in the field of optics, electronics, chemistry and coating system. Hollow particle can be synthesized by organic bean template, emulsion method, surface-assisted method and so on. The limit these methods is the pollution of organics and the complexity of process, it is necessary to find a simple and low-cost process for the preparation of hollow particles, especially the industrial production. We developed a new and simple process to prepare hollow calcium carbonate, which involves bubbling CO2/N2 mixed gas into CaCl2 solution. The CO2 gas dissolved into solution and reacts with Ca2+, forming the fine CaCO3 particles with the diameter of 50-100 nm. The fine particles attach to N2 bubbles and form the solid shell. After precipitation, the prepared samples were filtered and dried, and the hollow particles were attained. SEM has checked the morphology of the calcium carbonate. And the mechanism of this process has been proposed firstly. It is warmly expected to apply this process to some other materials, such as SiO2, TiO2, ZnO and so on.
