The present study examined the relationship between borderline personality traits, early life stress, and coping strategies. Additionally, it examined the mediating role of coping strategies in the relationship between borderline personality traits and early life stress. About 268 participants completed an online survey. The results indicated that borderline personality traits were positively correlated with neglect and emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Mediation analysis revealed that emotional and physical abuse were positively associated with borderline personality traits through active cognitive coping strategies, whereas neglect was positively associated with borderline personality traits through self-blame, wishful thinking, and avoidance strategies.
