Abstract

We investigated the number of maize weevils, S. zeamais, captured by pheromone traps (TORIOS®) placed at outdoor sites in residential areas of the Kanto region, Japan. The survey was conducted at 7 sites in Tokyo, 1 site in Saitama, 1 site in Chiba and 4 sites in Ibaraki from April to July, and October to November, in 2015. A trap was set under the eaves or the balcony floor of condominiums in each survey site. We captured S. zeamais adults at Fucyu, Tokyo, in May (♀1) and June (♂1), and at Tsukuba, Ibaraki, in June (♂1). These results show S. zeamais is active outdoors during spring in the Kanto region of Japan.
